EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE men's track and field sophomore Matt O'Connor broke the record in the 800 meters in 1 minute, 51.28 seconds.

O'Connor took fifth in event to overcome Dan Walden's record from 2002.

Senior Greg Block posted a first-place finish in the men's hammer throw with a throw of 189 feet, 4 inches.

Nick Matthews and Alec Dutton posted personal bests in the discus with marks of 143-0 and 155-9, respectively.

The men's and women's distance teams recorded several personal bests, including Scott Woodard in the steeplechase with a time of 9:40.35. Tyler Owens added a career best in the 5K with a time of 15:31.07.

Erin Kennedy, Jess Clarke and Allie Sweatt added in personal bests in the 5K. Kennedy ran a time of 17:46.02 to become No. 3 all-time at SIUE. Clarke finished in 17:54.34 while Sweatt finished in 18:13.51.

Haley Miller added a personal best in the steeplechase with a time of 11:10.53.

"This meet was a good stepping stone for us moving into our final two meets," said SIUE Interim Head Coach Scott Block. "This sets us up well for the rest of the season."

The Cougars return to Edwardsville Friday for a dual meet against SIU Carbondale.
