• This is the opening weekend of the Ohio Valley Conference regular season. Due to weather concerns, SIUE and Morehead State will play one game Saturday followed by a doubleheader Sunday.
• SIUE marched through a difficult final tournament in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, last weekend and finished on a high note with a 4-0 shutout over Furman. Avery Arwood tossed a complete-game shutout in the tournament finale.
• The Cougars lead the OVC in home runs (16 – 65th nationally) and home runs per game (1.00 – 50th nationally).
• Lauryn Yslava leads the OVC in home runs with five. She also is second in the league in slugging percentage (.696).
• Piper Montgomery leads the Cougars and is second in the OVC in on-base percentage (.500).
• Arwood is fourth in the OVC in innings pitched (45.0).
• Yslava has been the leadoff hitter in all but the first game of the season. She leads the OVC and is ranked 34th nationally in runs scored per game (1.19).
• SIUE is 31-7 all-time against the Eagles. The Cougars had a six-game winning streak snapped in the final game of the three-game series last season when the Eagles prevailed 3-1 in 10 innings.
Next Up: SIUE has a busy week planned moving forward. On Tuesday, SIUE welcomes Missouri State for a 5 p.m. home opener at Cougar Field. On Thursday, the Cougars travel to Kansas City for a noon doubleheader. The OVC schedule continues next weekend at Cougar Field when SIUE faces Tennessee Tech for a three-game series (Mar. 15-16).
