MACOMB, Ill. – SIUE softball was held to six hits Saturday in a 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference loss at Western Illinois.
Emma Henderson led SIUE with two hits, including a one-out triple in the sixth inning. Kaylynn Salyars, Raegan Duncan, Kaylin Fahy and Piper Montgomery also recorded hits in the series finale against the Leathernecks.
McKayla Anderson, the Cougars' starter, took the loss and is now 5-7.
Western Illinois, 11-31 overall and 7-14 in the OVC, recorded 10 hits and used RBI hits from Payton Brown in the first inning and Ruby Tarr in the fifth inning to push past the Cougars. Libby Spaulding went the distance for Western Illinois, fanning four in her third pitching victory of the season.
SIUE, 25-18 overall and 15-5 in the OVC, next meets Eastern Illinois in a three-game series. The series is set for Saturday and Sunday in Charleston.
