Weather Factor at Billy Hayes Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The SIUE men's track and field team waited through lengthy lightning delays Friday at the Billy Hayes Invitational before eventually finishing the meet.

 

Running the sprints into the wind, Ahmad Evans placed second in the 200 meters in a time of 21.34 seconds. Darius Smith was close behind in fourth (21.59).

 

The duo again battled in the 100 meters as Evans (10.91) finished just ahead of Smith (10.93) placing fifth and sixth, respectively.

 

William Lindsey ran the third-fastest time in the 110 hurdles preliminaries at 14.22. He later finished third overall with a finals time of 14.216, a fraction of a second behind the second-place finisher Brandon Winters of Purdue (14.215).

 

Nick Moore finished the 3,000 meters in 8:54.84 running a personal best by more than 13 seconds to place eighth.

 

Joshua Thomas ran to a third-place finish in the 400 hurdles winning his heat in 52.53. Lindsay finished 10th in a time of 53.84.

 

Jamil Mashni finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 50 feet, 2.5 inches, leading the SIUE throwers.

 

The Cougars are back in action May 11-12 at the Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville.
