        Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's Richard Skirball (Granite City) missed the finals of the 800-meter run by 0.33 at the 2003 NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships.
        Skirball, a junior who had previously advanced to the national championships indoors in this event, finished seventh in his preliminary heat with a time of 1 minute, 52.72 seconds. The top two in each of the two preliminary heats advanced to the Saturday final along with the next five fastest times.
        Skirball was edged out of the final by Abilene Christian's Jean-Marie Ndikumana. Abilene Christian teammate Bernard Manirakiza posted the fastest time of the preliminaries at 1:50.79.
        SIUE now looks to Saturday's finals where Carrie Carducci (Powell, Ohio) hopes to be among the top eight for All-American honors at the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Her event begins at 4:15 p.m.
