Cougars Fall to Furman, UAB

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – SIUE softball dropped a pair of contests Friday on the opening day of the Crimson Classic.

The Cougars's record fell to 5-8 after an 11-3 loss to Furman and a 7-5 loss to UAB.

Lauren Yslava gave SIUE an early lead in the Furman game. She sent the fourth pitch of the game over the left field fence. It was her fourth home run of the season.

Furman put together five runs in the second and three more in the third, stretching the lead out to 11-1 before SIUE added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth on a second home run from Yslava.

McKayla Anderson, 1-3, took the loss for the Cougars.

In the UAB game, Anna Henderson took over with three RBIs, including a first-inning two-run homer and an RBI double in the seventh.

Arissah Gara provided a two-run double against the Blazers in the fourth, but UAB collected 12 hits to improve its season record to 9-7.

Avery Arwood went the distance in the circle for the Cougars

SIUE has two more games tomorrow at the Crimson Classic. The Cougars face host Alabama in a 11 a.m. contest followed by a second meeting against UAB at 6:30 p.m.
