Josh Comer Joins SIUE Volleyball Coaching Staff

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE volleyball Head Coach Kendall Paulus added to her coaching staff for the 2025 season with the addition of Josh Comer as an assistant coach.
 
Comer will be working with the team as he makes the transition from being an assistant coach last season at McNeese.
 
"We are so excited to add Josh to our staff," Paulus said. "He is student-athlete focused and has a drive to make our team better every day. He is extremely well versed in all thing's volleyball. He can train every position, recruit at a high level and his insights into training and culture building fir perfectly with out program's vision."
 
Before coming to the Cougars, Comer spent two seasons with McNeese (2023-2024). He also spent two seasons as an assistant coach for both indoor and outdoor volleyball at Nicholls, including a brief stint as interim head coach (2022).
 
"Firstly, I want to thank Kendall for giving me the opportunity to be able to join her staff," Comer said. "I am excited for the tremendous opportunity to be able to join Kendall's staff, the volleyball team, and the university here at SIUE and build of the success here within the volleyball program on and off the court. Roll Cougs!"
 
He previously served as an assistant coach at UL-Lafayette for two years. Here he helped guide the indoor volleyball program to its first national ranking (15th), an 11-0 start, a third-place finish in the Sun Belt Conference, and a spot in the conference tournament in 2020.
 
During his time at Nicholls, Comer helped recruit the first two beach volleyball classes in 2022 and 2023 and contributed to the indoor team leading the conference in blocks per set in 2022.
 
A St. Louis native, Comer was an assistant at Troy for three years, focusing on developing setters, passers, and blockers as well as scouting serve receive and opponent attacks.
 
He was also heavily involved with club volleyball working with St. Louis High Performance Volleyball Club from 2012-17.
 
As a collegiate athlete, Comer played as an outside hitter and defensive specialist at Missouri Baptist University from 2013-2016. He earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2015 and helped lead them to four conference championships and two national championships (2015, 2016).
