OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – SIUE junior Chase Bloomer (Ottawa, Kansas) has been named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, release Friday by the College Baseball Foundation.
The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
Bloomer currently ranks second on the team and third in the Ohio Valley Conference with 10 home runs, which is a career high. He is fourth in the league in total bases, 11th in slugging at .550 and ranks 15th in RBIs with 30.
This marks the second time Bloomer has been featured on the Watch List. He also was recognized during his freshman season in 2023. Bloomer joins Southern Indiana shortstop Clayton Slack as the only two shortstops recognized from the OVC.
