EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - UT Martin scored a pair of early second-half goals and held on for a 2-1 victory Sunday over SIUE women's soccer in Ohio Valley Conference play at Korte Stadium.
The Cougars dropped to 1-5-2 overall and 0-1 in OVC play while UT Martin improved to 2-4-3 overall and 1-0 in the OVC.
The Skyhawks picked up a goal from Peyton Cook at 49:49 and their second from Makayla Robinson at 51:05.
Despite being down by a pair of goals, SIUE fought back and quickly.
Kaitlyn Nichols scored her first goal of the season on a header at 51:32 from
Emma Czech and
Kelsey Kehoe. The play started as a free kick with Nichols putting it on the line to cut the Skyhawks' lead in half.
SIUE went on to finish with 20 shots, 10 in each half but did not find the back of the net the rest of the contest. UT Martin finished with 11 shots.
Mac Titus grabbed eight saves in goal for the Skyhawks.
Abby Haskell recorded one save in goal for the Cougars.
SIUE returns to action Thursday at Korte Stadium for a 7 p.m. OVC contest against Little Rock.
