SIUE, Southern Indiana Settle for 0-0 Tie

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's soccer outshot visiting Southern Indiana 19-9 but neither team could find the back of the net Sunday in Ohio Valley Conference play.

"It was just one of those games where we couldn't get it over the line," said SIUE Head Coach Derek Burton. "It's another shutout in conference so it's not all bad."

SIUE is now 4-4-3 overall and 3-0-1 in the OVC. The Cougars' undefeated streak stretch out to four games. Southern Indiana is now 3-5-3 overall and 0-3-1 in the OVC.

Among SIUE's 19 shots were four from Lily Schnieders and three from Maria Haro. Taylor Dolt, Sarah Magnoni and Macie Begley each had two.

"If we have what we had in the second half earlier in the game, I think it's a different story. It was a tale of two halves," said Burton.

Southern Indiana had a big chance in the 28th minute against the Cougars when a penalty kick by Peyton Murphy was saved by SIUE's two-time OVC Goalkeeper of the Week Taylor Spiller.

Spiller dove to her right to save the penalty kick attempt.

"Taylor Spiller had another great game," said Burton. "Her instincts are great. She is courageous to come out in scrums. From the sidelines, its hard to tell what is even going on. I see bodies. Today and in the last five or six games in those situations the ball does not find its way into the goal.

Spiller finished with six saves, including the PK. USI's Maya Etienne collected eight saves.

The Cougars now head to the road for a key test at Tennessee Tech. Game time Thursday is 7 p.m. in Cookeville, Tennessee.
