Cougars Race Strong at Pink Classic

PEORIA, Ill. – Keith Meyer recorded the second fastest time in school history Friday at the Bradley Pink Classic.

Meyer placed eighth among 241 runners at the event with an 8K time of 24 minutes, 34.9 seconds. That is second only to his personal best ran last year of 24:32.2.

"Keith grabbed a top 10 finish and put everything into his race," said SIUE Assistant Coach Kayla Brown. "We had a couple of personal bests which are helping to close the gap. We still look to close those gaps within the group, but we are on the right track."

Anthony Holshouser (26:46.2), Matthew O'Connor (26:54.6) and Landon Skelly (27:08.1) each turned in personal bests. As a team, SIUE placed 18th of 27 teams.

In the women's 6K race, five SIUE runners turned in personal bests. The list included Erin Kennedy (21:57.1), Haley Miller (22:04.8), Jess Clarke (22:39.2), Keri Burmester (24:29.6) and Haley Quinn (25:06.2) For Kennedy and Miller, it was the fourth and sixth fastest times in school history. For Clarke, she cracked the top 20 at No. 19.

As a team, SIUE took 20th of 31 teams.

"We improved upon our place from last year, and I am happy with how they are working together." Said Brown. "It is exciting to see them racing as a unit."

SIUE now has just more than two weeks to prepare for the Ohio Valley Conference Championships Oct. 29 in Nashville, Tenn.
