Box Score CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Raven Berry recorded a game-high 25 points Monday but the SIUE women's basketball team was topped 67-62 against Southeast Missouri in a late morning game at the Show Me Center.
Berry recorded the 33rd double-double of her collegiate career with the 25-point, 11-rebound effort. With the loss, SIUE is now 12-12 overall and 6-6 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Southeast Missouri improved to 10-15 overall and 4-8 in the OVC.
"Raven was great today," said SIUE Head Coach Paula Buscher. "But I felt like in the second half we tried going to her too much. We never got into a good rhythm offensively, and that hurt us."
CoCo Moore and Tierny Austin added 11 and 10 points, respectively for the Cougars.
A crowd of 1,609 made mostly of Cape Girardeau area youth saw Kara Wright come off the bench for Southeast Missouri to pick up a team-high 20 points.
Bailey Roberts added three key three-pointers in the second half for the Redhawks and finished with 17 points. Jordan Hunter added 12.
"We didn't defend as well as we needed to today," Buscher said. "It's frustrating because we played so well on Saturday. We just weren't on the same page today."
It was a close game from beginning to end with eight lead changes, four in each half. The game was tied as late as 4:02 to play when Berry evened the score 58-58 on a jumper in the paint.
"Turnovers were a big difference," Buscher said. "We need to step up and take care of the ball." SIUE finished the game with 18 turnovers to SEMO's nine.
Buscher said she was eager to return to the Vadalabene Center Saturday for the Pink Zone game against Austin Peay. Tip-off time is 4 p.m.
"We put a little pressure on ourselves with not getting this game today," said Buscher. "We're going to have to step it up at home these next three games and just worry about the game in front of us."
