Box Score EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Three Blue Demons recorded double figures
as DePaul defeated Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
women's basketball 76-40 Friday night at the Vadalabene Center.
The Blue Demons improved to 8-1 behind a swarming defense that
held SIUE to 24.5 percent shooting. SIUE fell to 2-5 after shooting
6 of 29 in the second half.
SIUE played well to open the game with three-pointers from Madison Meade
and Amanda
Ledbetter. The Cougars were tied with the Blue Demons 23-23
following a jumper by Sydney Stahlberg
with 4:24 to play in the first half.
Ledbetter finished as SIUE's top scorer with 11 points. Raven Berry added 10
points and led the team with four steals.
"Amanda gave us a great lift. She had been struggling lately,
but her response in practice was good. And she played a lot
looser," said SIUE Head Coach Amanda Levens.
Sam Quigley and Keisha Hampton led DePaul with 14 points each.
Quigley added a game-high seven assists and missed her 1,000th
career point by just a single point. Felicia Chester added 13
points and five steals.
DePaul shot 56 percent in the second half (14-25) and took
control of the game with a 15-4 run over the first seven minutes of
the half.
"I don't think the way we started the second half was what we
talked about at halftime. Our response needed to be better, and we
just looked flat," Levens said.
DePaul took advantage of 25 SIUE fouls and went to the line 35
times, converting 27 free throws.
"They showed us how you put someone away on the road. We can
take a teaching point from that."
