Cougars Frustrate Quincy 87-80

         EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball used a balanced offensive attack Saturday for its fifth consecutive victory, an 87-80 victory over Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Quincy.
           Five different players scored in double figures for the Cougars as SIUE picked up its first GLVC victory of the season. SIUE is now 7-3 overall and 1-2 in the GLVC. Quincy suffered its third conference loss and is now 6-5 overall.
           SIUE shot 50 percent in the first half and 53.8 percent in the second half, keeping Quincy off-balance with five players in double figures. Both J.B. Jones and John Edmison shot 6 of 10 from the field and hit both of their free throws. J.B. Jones finished as the leading scorer with 17 points, including a career best three three-pointers.
           Quincy fell behind 37-32 at halftime and came within only four points of SIUE in the second half. SIUE led the whole second half using 13 points from Doug Taylor, 14 from T.J. Gray and 13 off the bench from Anthony Jones.
           The Hawks' Cameron Murkey scored 20 points, including four three-pointers. Jeff Wilson added 18 points, and Andre Muse finished with 14. Muse, the GLVC's leading scorer, was held to 4-of-13 shooting from the field at the Vadalabene Center.
           SIUE now turns its attention to Rockhurst where the Cougars have a 7:30 p.m. contest Thursday in Kansas City, Mo.
