SIUE Downs Lewis for 10th Straight Win

         ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville men's basketball collected its 10th straight win Thursday with a 67-58 triumph over Lewis at Neil carey Arena.
         SIUE Coach Marty Simmons got a lift from his bench in Thursday's triumph as freshman Nick Arth led all scorers with 14 points. Sophomore guard Anthony Jones added 13 points.
         The Cougars improved to 14-3 on the season and 8-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lewis falls to 10-8 overall and 4-6 in the GLVC.
         It also marked another long-standing streak broken by the Cougars. It was the first time SIUE has won at Neil Carey Arena since Feb. 24, 1998.
         SIUE and Lewis dueled in the first half with the game tied five times. Doug Taylor put SIUE up 24-22 on a layup with 5:40 to play in the half. SIUE nudged ahead with a three-pointer at the first-half buzzer by Jones to give the Cougars a 34-28 edge at halftime.
         In the second half, SIUE used a 10-0 run midway through the period, highlighted by a steal and eventual dunk by Ryan Belcher.
         SIUE's bench outscored Lewis 33-23 as no Cougar starters finished in double figures. Ty Johnson had his streak of 12 consecutive games scoring double figures snapped as he collected eight points.
         The Cougars now head to UW-Parkside to face the Rangers on Saturday. Tip-off time is 3 p.m.
