Cougars Score Win Over Rival UMSL

         EDWARDSVILLE - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville picked up its first back-to-back victories of the season Saturday downing Missouri-St. Louis 64-62 in front of its home crowd.
         SIUE, 6-15 overall and 3-12 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, used 17 points from Marty Perry to topple UMSL. Luke Humphrey added 13 points off the bench and Nick Hartwig added 11.
         The Cougars took a 12 point lead at halftime only to see it dwindle away in the second half. Jim Schelich led the charge for the Rivermen with 21 points. Anthony Love had 13 while Greg Ross added 10.
         But SIUE held on at the end as Ben Garwitz finished off the Rivermen with a pair of free throws with eight seconds left to give SIUE a 64-60 lead. UMSL's Michael Hamilton followed with a layup with three seconds to play. A last-second shot after an UMSL steal did not fall, giving the Cougars their second straight victory.
         SIUE now must face Southern Indiana at home this upcoming Tuesday. Southern Indiana enters the game with a 20-1 record overall and a No. 2 national ranking.
